Academic Exchange & Workshop, São José dos Campos, Brazil
2017
In 2017 I was invited to travel to Brazil to participate in a workshop and academic exchange between scientists from São Paulo State University Institute of Science and Technology and Portland State University. The workshop focused on Climate Science, Extreme Environmental Events, and Water Resources, and was held at the academic and research campus of UNESP in the small city of São José dos Campos. I traveled with three professors and one graduate student from Portland State University, and our research ranged from climate science, forest fire research, wildlife biology and natural resource social science. My presentation was titled “Water and Wine: Natural Resource Management and Climate Change in Global Wine Regions.” In addition to academic exchanges, we had a chance to check out the local food and culture, and spend a day exploring the giant metropolis of São Paulo.
